Photos: Pennsylvania Legislators join Riverlife for boat tour of Pittsburgh\u2019s rivers<\/h3>\n

On Thursday, May 26th Riverlife hosted a group of bipartisan legislators for a boat tour of Pittsburgh\u2019s rivers. The tour on the Rivers of Steel<\/a>\u2019s Explorer Riverboat<\/em> was an opportunity to show off Pittsburgh\u2019s waterways and the progress made over the last two decades, including the restoration of the Point State Park Fountain and the creation of the Mon Wharf Switchback.<\/p>\n

Riverlife staff also shared the Completing the Loop<\/a><\/strong> vision plan, which proposes ambitious improvements to the 15-mile, 1,055-acre downtown loop of riverfront parks, trails, and public open\"\" space.<\/p>\n

Many of the proposed projects identified in the Completing the Loop plan are eligible for funding through Pennsylvania\u2019s Waterfront Development Tax Credit<\/strong><\/a>, a program that encourages private investment in organizations like Riverlife that create thriving and accessible waterfront spaces across the Commonwealth.<\/p>\n

The boat dock at Allegheny Landing has been unusable since 2018.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Last year, Riverlife\u2019s project at Allegheny Landing Park on the North Shore received funding through the program to restore the Park\u2019s boat dock and make improvements to the lower trail. The broken dock has been a safety hazard since it was destroyed by an ice floe in 2018 and has restricted access to an important water connection for the boating community. With funding from the tax credit program, restoration of the dock began earlier this year.<\/p>\n
